GPS wins a major contract in Malaysia for a SELF ELEVATING RELOCATABLE FACILITY (SERF)
GPS Group through its local partner Tanjung Offshore Services Sdn.Bhd. has won a major contract of around US$25 million for the provision of a SERF for Murphy Sarawak Oil Co. Ltd. for use on Murphy Oil's fields in Sarawak.
The contract involves provision of the converted GPS asset 'GPS Producer 1' on a daily charter basis for 18 months with two extension options of 1 year periods.
The GPS Producer 1 is currently undergoing upgrade work at Labuan Shipyard, Malaysia for mobilisation to the field at the end of the third quarter 2007.
Mike Ooley, GPS's Asset Manager based in GPS's KL HQ sees this as another major step in GPS's rig based production and utility fleet growth. The Murphy award is the third award for similar jack up based solutions to GPS in the past 2 years. "We look forward to working with Murphy on this exciting project and we believe that the award further strengthens GPS Group's position in this emerging market in south East Asia", said Ooley speaking from his KL operation base.
The GPS Producer 1 is a MAT jack up, originally designed and built over 25 years ago by Baker Marine in the USA. The rig was formerly the Blake 505 and previous to that the Todco 192 and RBF-192. The rig was aquired by the GPS Group in mid 2006.
